Principal’s Message
At St Therese’s, we help our students to discover their innate talents and unlock their learning potential under our vision of “Growth for All”.
Our dedicated teaching staff work collaboratively to help bring our vision and mission to life. We create elevated learning environments where your child will feel safe, supported and thrive authentically in their learning.
Our school stands on the shoulders of Australia’s first saint, Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Established in 1926 by the Sisters of St Joseph, St Therese’s welcomes families and students from many different lands and cultures. Cultural diversity, tolerance and harmony are proud features of our school. Our school motto is “We are People of Love; We are People of Hope; We are People of Faith” and we are committed to demonstrating this in our thoughts, our words and our actions. We would love to welcome you to St Therese’s inclusive and diverse school and community.
History
St Therese’s Catholic Primary School Lakemba began in 1926, under the care of the Sisters of St Joseph. As a community of believers we are united by the message of Jesus and inspired by the lives and teachings of St Therese of Lisieux and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
St Therese lived each day with an unshakable confidence in God’s love. “What matters in life,” she wrote, “is not great deeds, but great love”. Therese lived and taught a spirituality of attending to everyone and everything well and with love. She believed that just as a child becomes captivated by what is before them, we should also have a childlike focus and totally attentive love. Therese’s spirituality is of doing the ordinary, with extraordinary love.
May we, like St Therese, attend to everyone and everything well and with love.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s legacy has gone well beyond her start at Penola. From the humble beginnings of her first school, opened in 1866, to the robust Catholic education system in operation Australia wide today, we follow in St Mary of the Cross’ footsteps embracing her simple philosophy of never seeing a need without doing something about it.
May we, like Mary, never see a need without doing something about it.
