Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.

Students and the families of St Therese Catholic Primary School Lakemba experience outreach to others less fortunate or in need overseas aid and locally with an understanding of social justice issues around the world. This understanding is so evident when they present at our prayer assembly.

Mini Vinnies encourage their families to contribute money to project compassion/Caritas and St Vincent de Paul initiatives The Winter and Christmas appeals.

Members fundraise, cooking biscuits to raise money for farmers and supporting the SCS sleepout, sponsoring members by making bracelets to be sold and selling their own second hand books and toys. Mini Vinnie members sing Christmas Carols to the elderly in the local aged care facility. Our Advent Calendar is a whole school initiative, giving families the opportunity to reach out to those in need within our community in more practical ways.

Our Environment Warriors have a great understanding of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si, they are also familiar with social justice issues and are currently collecting plastic bottle tops which will be melted down to make prosthetic hands.
